Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen, legal permanent resident, or possess valid work authorization from the Department of Homeland Security.
Background: Clean criminal record: no disqualifying felony convictions or misdemeanors.

This course prepares individuals to obtain a license as unarmed security officers. It is fully approved by the State of Florida Department of Agriculture, Division of Licensing and meets all licensure requirements.

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of an unarmed security officer’s definition, roles, responsibilities, and authority to ensure you are well informed and prepared for your duties.
  • Comprehend the desired behaviors and conduct of security personnel in the workplace.
  • Comprehend Florida Laws (state statutes) governing Private Security Services that administer armed and unarmed security personnel.
  • Comprehend basic first aid techniques and related safety and legal considerations to administering first aid.
  • Comprehend the general evacuation and notification procedures used when responding to emergencies.
  • Comprehend the basic principles of effective foot and vehicle patrols and how situational awareness and defensive driving aid the security officer in these duties.
  • Comprehend general security terminology and basic access control strategies used in the security industry to protect property, assets, or people.
  • Comprehend the primary elements of effective observation techniques and the importance of note-taking and report writing.
  • Event security and Crowd Control is crucial part of our curriculum

You must submit your application to FDACS. Here are the next steps:

  • Application Fee: A total of $97.75 (which includes the $45 application fee and fingerprint/background check processing fees).
  • Fingerprinting: You must submit fingerprints through an approved LiveScan provider.
  • Documentation: Include your 40-hour training certificate and a recent passport-style photo. 


The cost of attending Dukes & Jones Security Academy varies depending on the program and other factors. Please contact our admissions office for more information.


At Dukes&Jones Security Academy, we have a very high success rate and adhere to best teaching practices to give you the best chance of passing your exam. The course includes daily chapter reviews utilizing an innovative quiz app that effectively prepare students for the final exam.

Students are required to achieve at least 80% on the final exam, but our average is above 90%!


Every student will have three opportunities to pass the final exam. We encourage all our students to succeed; students are allowed to review the course areas they may have had difficulty with to prepare to re-take the exam. 


No! Orlando has a high demand for professional licensed security officers, creating numerous opportunities for full-time and part-time employment. Students who finish their 42 hour-course with Dukes&Jones Security Academy will be offered  options for job placement.
